New arrivals

It is been a long time since, I Rock n’Roll…

Maybe not, but, yes, it has been a long time since we post something interesting on www.classic-vins.com

Winters are always busy for Classic Vins, but we did receive some new wines! and some of them are not even on our web site, as we received so little of it. First of all, Domaine Martin from Sancerre has change its image and it is spot on! you should check it on our Instagram. 2018 Sancerre from the fairly famous village of Chavignol, is one of our favorite. A food-friendly Sauvignon Blanc, light-bodied, bone-dry but savory and complex!

Also from Domaine Martin, is their parcel cuvee, called «Cul de Beaujeu», a sauvignon Blanc delicately oaked.  The result is a highly addictive and charming wine, elegant and perfect for delicate food such as scallops.

Not yet arrived, but on its way, it is the Sobrenatural produced by Menade. A great and unusual white, that would have seduced Mr Jules Chauvet! Effectively, it is wild Yeats fermented, and obviously, no sulphur is added. But more impressively, it is aged 36 months in oak and vats before bottling. The result? well, a very complex Verdejo, miles away from what your lips have tasted recently. Subtle, glyceric, complex with a great personality. Just a few bottle are coming… Don’t say you were not aware!

The last but not the least is the brand new Torello Collection. This has to be on the rarest Corpinnat ;-)))

Aged 10 years before to be released, it is probably the most complex Sparkling wine that we have tasted from Spain. And, just a minute amount of has been produced! So, you guessed it. Avaibility is rather low. We should receive 36 bottles and 6 magnums.

Do no hesitate to contact us, if you are interested!

New wines for September

New wines

To start, Dominio do Bibei (Galicia) have released a new white from DO Ribeiro called Lalume. It is glently oaked using 600 Liters barrel in order to give some extra complexity, without dominating the wine. Low availability, 17.50 euros.

Also from Galicia is the surprising Tabla de Sumar! An unusual and exotic Albarino. Full-bodied, unoaked, peachy, apricot. We rarely tasted something like this, it very good and clearly confusing if tasted blind! 9.88 euros a bottle

Then, from La Rioja we are now stocking white wines from Finca de la Rica (Nomada, El buscador…). As a result, this brand new wine is called Candelera. It is a classic blend of Garnacha, Viura and Malvasia. It has been aged 4 months in new oak, for some more complexity. The result is a medium-bodied white great for food, that shows ginger notes and some discreet spicy notes.

13.00 Euros a bottle.

From Hungary, we carry the Pajzos wine from Tokaji. It is elaborated entirely with Furmint, it light-bodied, unoaked and has 5 to 6 gr/L of residual sugar that makes it perfect as an aperitif or with some slightly spicy food! 10.50 euros a bottle.

Now, for the reds we have some pretty good news! Especially for those looking for fine Italian wines. We now offer various wines from La Spinetta (Piamonte), such as the Nebbiolo Langhe which is a good introduction to Barolo/barbaresco at a kinder price 19.25 euros a bottle. After that, we also have the Barbaresco Bordini for 38.50 euros a bottle. In addition, if you fancy something fruitier the Barbara d-Asti Ca’di Pian will do the trick perfectly for 18.50 euros.

Decant them at least 1 hour before!

Mos importantly, James Suckling gave 93/100 points to a stunning Ribera Del Duero wine, known as Pagos de Valcerracin Crianza 2016(12.85 euros a bottle). The estate is located near the castle of Penafiel, and their Italian wine-maker is highly talented. A wine to look for!

And above all, from Bordeaux, we were amazed by the great Saint Emilion Grand Cru
Chateau Fonroque 2016 (own by the Moueix Family, Chateau Petrus), 42.00 euros a bottle, but it is without a doubt the nicest Bordeaux we have tasted this year! Savoury, smoky, very well-balanced…it has everything! But yes, it is a special treat…

And finally from Spain, we have a up and coming blockburster from Alicant, produced from ungrafted vines (monastrell) called Triga. Firstly, it is vinified by a well-known Australian wine maker – Chris Ringland (always scores highly with Mr Robert Parker). And secondly it has to be decanted it 24 hours before, if not the magic will not take place! Rich, intense, chocolatey, full-bodied… not for the faint of heart! 28.75 Euros a bottle.

Food and wine pairing : carpaccio VS Steak tartare

Food and wine pairing: Carpaccio Vs Steak Tartare

Today we thought we could challenge us. On one side we have the delicate Beef Carpaccio and on the other side, we have the savory and intense steak tartare. Both raw, though!

So what to drink with carpaccio!

  •  Abrunet Negre from Terra Alta: a Good value red, sappy and easy.
  • Chateau Grand Boise Rose : A Cote de Provence, refreshing, dry and entertaining.

Now, the Steak tartare… an intense, spicy dish.

  • Lalama, a mencia blend from Ribera Sacra in Galicia. It is complex, intense but not tiring,  very fresh thanks to its atlantic influence.

  • Bourgogne Maison Fatien, a Pinot noir fine and elegant that has enough structure to stand a dish like this one. Perfumed, polished tannins, and a touch of leatheryness

  • Manganite from Vignes du Mayne in Macon. 100% gamay, a juicy but serious wine. Fresh and complex. This will be a great experience. (low avaibility)

  • Champagne Lallier Grand Cru 2008. Not the cheapest option but a great wine. Intense, muesli, honeyed and smooth texture. a lovely champagne that has enough body and personality to stand such a flavorsome dish.

As always, these are just suggestions,

Please, give us your opinions,

Food and wine pairing : Fried (tempura, Fish and Chips…)

Hello wine lovers,

Every now and then, it is fine to drink wine rather than beer with your fish and chips. Or simply, what can we have with fried food such as tempura! Well, white for sure and surely a light, refreshing wine that cleanse your palate from the oily texture of the dish… let’s think like lemon juice.

Our choices go for :

  • Blanc tranquille from Torello : A bargain! a xarel.lo/muscat blend. light-bodied, fresh and just to name it I am already salivating…
  • Petit Chablis from William Fevre, Northern burgundy chardonnay. This is steely, mineral and has a crisp acidity. Ideal to for enhancing the flavor of your fishes.
  • Vouvray Domaine Vincent Careme. 100% Chenin Blanc, Light-bodied, dry and delicious. Unusual, but will work perfectly
  • Champagne Monthuys Brut Reserve. Why not? If there is a celebration, as well… This is a light, crisp champagne for a terrific price!

If you need any further details, do not hesitate to contact us!

Enjoy, and cheers

Food and wine pairing : Ceviche, marinated salmon

Hello dear all,

Summer is officially with us! and it is this time of the year that we love some fresh, crunchy, mouth-watering dishes.

But what to drink with them! Ceviche, marinated salmon (with lemon) need dry white wines. It is better to go for light and preferably unoaked white. They also need to be crisp, and flavorsome! Our advice goes for the following wines

  • Menade Ecologico – for less than 10 euros, this is the perfect choice for Ceviche! It is dry and charming, as it is packed with citrus and passion fruit.

  •  Les Athletes du vin – 100% sauvignon Blanc from the loire valley. also for less than 10 euros. Gooseberry, grapefruit, herbaceous and dry!

  • Josep Coca Sparkling wine! made by Marcel from Castellroig this is an intense, serious and complex wine. But it is fresh, lively and vibrant.

  • Trico, an Albarino from Rias Baixas, this is also light to medium bodied with pear, apricot flavor that are boosted by mouthwatering acidity.

  • Sancerre, domaine Martin. 100% Sauvignon from the great village of Chavignol. Racy, crisp and almost with this liquorice notes that comes through.

  • Riesling Domaine Frey, Alsacian Riesling is always a good performer. Lime, green apples and highly refreshing.

If you need anyfurther information, do not hesitate to contact us!

Enjoy and cheers!

From the southern part of Catalonia, Francesc, owner and winemaker from Celler Frisach in Terra Alta will be presenting his wines on thursday night. The vineyards is run organically and are usually sulphur free!

Francesc is surely one of the most talented winemaker of his generation, he is just brilliant. This a unique opportunity to meet a future «cult» winemaker.
