With his own project known as Dominio del Aguila, Jorge Monzon released its first vintage in 2010. Previously, Jorge had accumulated working experience with mind blowing estates :

• 2 years with Domaine de La Romanée-Conti
• 1 Year with Vega Sicilia
• 9/10 years with Arzuaga

Jaw dropping, indeed!

Now, with his wife, they owned close to 40 ha of old vineyards in La Aguilera. Vineyards that are mostly composed of old vines, at least 80 years old. Most wines ferment in cement and then they are aged for long time in old 225 l. barrels. El Picaro del Aguila is their entry level, and is already a classic.

Subtle and elegant extraction combined with extended barrel aging offer a beautiful Ribera del Duero wine. Complex nose with dark fruit, vanilla, caramel with a touch od reduction at first. It needs to be decanted, at least 30mn. The texture is what impacted me the most, the quality of the tannins for such a young wine from ribera del duero is just amazing. Soft yet present, just like if they had made a voluptuous “soufflé” from them.
