Kevin Judd was the main wine-maker for the famous Cloudy Bay, but as the estate has been bought by the huge LVMH company, Kevin thought it as time to make a change!
Thus, he created his own estate, hence Greywacke. A named that he first came through when looking for new vineyards years ago. The style in Greywacke is definitely more French than New World, not that the French style is better, but do not expect to find a fruit bomb! Kevin Judd tries to achieve a certain balanced using indigenous yeast (which tend to produce less impressive/aromatic wines, compared to innoculated yeast) and he uses a bit oak (although not new).
Nonetheless, the Greywacke 2020 is complex but not in your face. The result is peachy and stony on the nose, with some gentle grassy aromas on the palate. The texture and persistence give a special dimension to this wine, as does the waxy and yeasty flavor. Lingering finish!
To say the truth we are super excited to start this new relation with this estate, soon we will bring some more wines from them.
Stay tuned!
