Domaine La Janasse

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes, 2018

65% Grenache, 20% mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 5% Divers.

The oldest parcel used in the “Vieilles Vignes” was planted in 1920! Yields are naturally and significantly low, consequently this Châteauneuf-du-Pape is concentrated, rich and complex.

Aged 12 months in oak, in foudres principally, using very little new oak. Again, the idea is to keep the fruit as pure as possible. 80% of the stems are separated, thus avoiding the extraction of some harsh tasting tannins.

Recently tasted, we were particularly impressed with the richness and complexity of this tremendous and silky wine.

Finally, this needs a great dish, a roasted lamb shoulder with Mediterranean herbs, but also if you are patient enough, you could age it until 2028/30…
