Syrah
This unusual project, Castell d’Encus, located in the northern part of Costers del Segre, is fascinating. The great Raul Bobet has worked, talked or seen some of the most important figures in the wine industry. By that, I mean tremendous names such as Andre Tchelistcheff, Emile Peynaud or Giacomo Tachis! quite an honor.
Most of the vines are 1000 m. high (above sea level), and all the wines are fermented with their wild yeasts. Which makes interesting wines, less impressive aromatically, but with a much more personal complexity.
Castell d’Encus is located in the Pallars Jussar, high in altitude. Talarn is the name of the nearest village.
Thalarn is 100% Syrah, just like most of the great wine from the northern Rhône. (Côte Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Cornas). It is spicy with some white pepper notes, but also leathery. Intense with smooth tannins.
