Bollinger Vieilles Vignes Françaises 2005
Blanc de Noirs
100% Pinot Noir
Champagne
A blast from the past! Absolutely, this story send us back to the end of the 19th century when the insect phylloxera was destroying vineyards in Europe : a true carnage! Now most most wines are produced from vines that are grafted onto American Woodstock. (Which are naturally resistant to the damaging louse)
But not all vineyards have been affected, and Bollinger 2 tiny parcels in Aÿ that are still planted as they were 100 years ago. We do carry a few wines that produced from ungrafted vines, but they are very rare and difficult to found.
As Bollinger Vieilles Vignes Françaises is yielding exclusively with Pinot Noir, it can be named “Blanc de Noirs”, an expression that means that it is a white wine elaborated with black grapes. Blanc de Blancs, on the other hand, would mean a white wine elaborated with white grape, or Chardonnay as other white grapes in Champagne are seldom seen such as Arbanne, Fromenteau or Petit Meslier.
