Description

La Montagne 2017

La Rectorie

AOC Collioure – Roussillon

Grenache, Counoise, Carignan

Banyuls and Collioure share the same geographic territory, nonetheless the first one is sweet and fortified and the other is dry (red, white or rosé).

Collioure is mediterranean in all senses. The touristic port is one of the most beautiful place you have ever seen, and the vineyards are planted right above on the hills and for many looking at the sea. La “Montagne” means vineyards that are at 200/400m above sea level, some with a northern exposure. Schist and slate are all the soils you find here, and vines thrives in this a harsh environment, not unlike priorat.

As you will notice, here , the blend incorporates an interesting variety also planted in Châteauneuf-du-pape called Counoise. Counoise is thought to originate in Spain, probably near Manresa. A valuable blending partner, as it has the ability to keep acidity without bringing much tannins to the finished wine.

La Montagne 2017 has strength and elegance. Concentrated with finesse it shows fresh fruit, ripe but not cooked. Cherry, smoky floral and juicy. Probably our favotire!
