Description

Castell D’Encus, Quest 2018

Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot.

This unusual project, Castell d’Encus, located in the northern part of Costers del Segre, is fascinating. The great Raul Bobet has worked, talked or seen some of the most important figures in the wine industry. By that, I mean tremendous names such as Andre Tchelistcheff, Emile Peynaud or Giacomo Tachis! quite an honor.

Most of the vines are 1000 m. high (above sea level), and all the wines are fermented with their wild yeasts. Which makes interesting wines, less impressive aromatically, but with a much more personal complexity.

Quest! what a great name… Raul Bobet (co-owner and wine-maker) has always been a huge fan of the red Bordeaux from the 80’s. And his challenge is to achieve, in a different place, with a different landscape but with Classic Bordeaux varietals, his dream wine.

2018 is probably the best Quest we ever tasted. Precise, tense, fresh and concentrated but not overpowering. The aak treatment is present, but doesn’t dominate. Medium-bodied with a tremendous lingering finish.

Dense but elegant, with good concentration of fruit but not over cooked! It is fresh with a hint of green pepper. The finely grained tannins are well-managed. Lingering with a great potential for extra cellaring.

Simply roasted lamb will do justice to this great bottle of wine.
