Ribera Sacra is a little wine producing area closed to Ourense. The vineyards are steep and viticulture is difficult! Here, the local grape, Mencia is doing really well. It tends to be fluid, floral and sappy!

Lalama has been one of our favorite red for quite a while. And there are several reasons for this, first it is good, savoury and fresh. Second they work organically and third they add very little Sulphur.

The wine is blended. 90% of Mencia and the 10% left is a mix of different varieties such as Brancellao, mouraton, souson and Garnacha tintorera. In order to soften up the tannins, Lalama is aged in barrel of different sizes. The larger the format, less oak influence we get from it. So, the oak treatment does not dominate to taste of the wine.
